Dr. Woojin Choi is an aviation and airport specialist with more than 30 years of global experience spanning the full airport project lifecycle, from planning and design through delivery, handover, and operations. He recently served as Resident Engineering Manager on the Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) project within the Delivery Partner organisation, where he led project definition, design and engineering management, project completion, and handover activities for the greenfield airport development, which was completed seven months ahead of schedule and within budget. He currently serves as Bechtel’s Aviation Lead for Asia-Pacific, supporting the company’s broader aviation business and contributing to the ORAT process for WSI. His career includes key roles across industry and academia with Incheon International Airport, Samsung C&T, Airbus, and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, with a focus on airport capacity development and aviation research. He holds an Aerospace MBA and a PhD in Aviation and has authored ten peer-reviewed publications, primarily focusing on sustainable capacity expansion and optimisation in the aviation industry using data science and machine learning. He also serves as a Visiting Professor at Korea Aerospace University, where he delivers airport management lectures to professionals from global airport operators. As Bechtel’s Distinguished Technical Specialist Coordinator and a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society (FRAeS), he actively promotes technical excellence, knowledge sharing, and professional development across both organisations.
