Izumi joined New Tokyo International Airport Authority, the predecessor to Narita International Airport Corporation (NAA), in April 2000. Since joining NAA, he has been assigned to various departments, including planning, design and construction, operation and maintenance of various airport facilities. He has acquired extensive knowledge on airport operation and management from the experience. He was assigned to the Japan International Transport Institute (JITI) in Washington DC from 2015 to 2018. During his tenure in JITI, he conducted a variety of research projects, not only specific to the airport industry but also the airline industry as well as US government policies. On returning to NAA, he was assigned to the airport planning department, where he developed a whole new concept of the BHS for the new passenger terminal building opening in 10 years’ time. His recent accomplishments include the development of fully autonomous jet bridges with one of the largest Japanese manufacturers. He has also been striving to promote implementation of cutting-edge technologies in airport operations as the head of innovation promotion.
